Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Every child deserves the best possible start in life, whether a child joins in the Nursery or in Reception we wish the child’s first experience to be a positive one.  We provide a caring, secure environment where each child is valued as an individual, encouraged to become confident, happy and responsive in order to reach their full potential.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that all children learn, develop well and are kept healthy and safe.  It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

At Elmridge Primary School, EYFS applies to children aged 3 to 5 who are placed within our Nursery and Reception classes.  Those children joining the Reception Class will do so at the beginning of the school year, September, in which they are five. Similarly, those joining Nursery, will do so at the beginning of the September, in which they are three.

You can find more information below about our Early Years classes, including long term curriculum plans.

Also, our Nursery and Reception class pages and Twitter pages will give a closer look into the day-to-day life here at Elmridge.

Some areas of learning – such as PSED, CLL, PD – are embedded into every aspect of our learning. However, the steps show how we expect children to progress towards the start of Reception.

Reception Curriculum This document provides an overview of the skills we expect children to achieve in Reception, ending with the Early Learning Goal.
